Citizen science and technology offer viable pathways towards the acceleration of data collection to aid conservation efforts. This presentation will highlight these opportunities through case studies of Hong Kong’s butterflies; 1) using stickers to track butterfly migration, 2) using public-reported records to model the distributions of species, and 3) using remote sensing to understand combined impacts of habitat and climate change on butterflies.

Tower crane operations face challenges like precise load positioning, collision risks, and blind spots, risking accidents, injuries, and delays. Harsh weather and complex site layouts heighten these dangers. With this in mind, we would like to design a solution that leverages and integrates GNSS and 3D LiDAR for accurate object and height detection, ensuring safe lifts. It includes an AI Cam with high-resolution surveillance and real-time monitoring, enhancing safety and efficiency. To improve community-level preventive screening for vital organ health, we developed an innovative portable electrical impedance tomography (EIT) system. Unlike existing health initiatives that focus on metabolic risk management, this platform enables real-time, noninvasive assessment of heart, lung, liver, and kidney community settings. Clinical validation at Queen Mary Hospital, in collaboration with HKU, demonstrated high diagnostic accuracy: COPD screening achieved 82% sensitivity and 73% specificity, fatty liver disease 92% sensitivity and 88% specificity, and chronic kidney disease over 95% sensitivity and 94% specificity—revealing promising potential for broader healthcare integration.
